Wilderness First Aid Training

This course meets the standards of the BSA and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. It provides participants with current information on assessing and treating conditions that may be encountered in the wild. Skills and scenario management must be demonstrated. The student who successfully finishes this course will receive a certification for Wilderness First Aid from the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (approved by the BSA for high adventure bases and similar activities) which is valid for 2 years.
Current CPR/AED training is required to receive a course completion card (”certification”).


Please check with your local fire department if you need CPR/AED certification – if you cannot locate a course, please contact the instructor for assistance.


Wilderness First Aid Prerequisites:
- Current Adult CPR & AED (Red Cross, American Heart Association, ECSI, or similar) is REQUIRED
- Minimum 14 years old (NO EXCEPTIONS) due to nature of discussions


Cost: $85 per participant, late fee $125


Students Need to Bring:
- Notepad and writing implement(s)
- "trail" first aid kit with disposable gloves
- Chair
- proper clothing for the season & weather for indoors AND outdoors
- Water bottle, snacks, food, & cooking gear for the weekend
- Camping gear for the weekend


Food: Students will need to provide their own food AND cooking/eating gear.


Lodging or camping: Camping WILL be available - bring everything you will need to camp, including tent or hammock.


Primary Instructor:
Tom Pitts (Emergency Care & Safety Institute certified instructor & instructor trainer for First Aid, CPR, AED, and Wilderness First Aid, as well as trained & experienced Boy Scout and Venturing leader, EMT, Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness EMT, and Medical Officer for Benton County Search & Rescue team).
Assisted by Scouters, Scouts, and/or Venturers from Natural State Council


TENTATIVE schedule: We will plan to work from 7 - 10 PM Friday evening, 8 AM – 8 PM Saturday (with meal breaks), and 8 AM - PM Sunday. The schedule may vary based on class needs.
